A gunman has killed seven people and injured two others at a house in Texas, according to US officials.
The attacker was shot dead at the scene after being confronted by an officer who went inside the property.
All of the victims are believed to be adults, and neither they nor the suspect have been identified so far.
Police spokesman David Tilley said a shooting of this magnitude was unusual for Plano, a city that lies less than 20 miles northeast of Dallas.
He added: “I’ve been here all my life. I’ve never heard of anything like this.”
“We’re trying to put all the puzzle pieces together.”
According to local media, those inside the house were watching the Dallas Cowboys when the shooting began at about 8pm on Sunday night.
Investigators have yet to determine a motive for the attack – but a neighbour told the Dallas News that there may have been a domestic dispute.
