Nearly a third of parents with children who are due to start school for the first time this September are yet to apply for a reception class place for them – and the deadline to do so is now just days away.
Parents and guardians have until Monday (15 January) to register their preferred schools by completing the quick and easy online application process.
Over 70% of families have already completed their applications, but hundreds have either not yet started, or started and not completed, the process.
Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I cannot stress enough how important it is that parents or guardians of children who are due to start school for the first time in September complete their application by next Monday’s deadline.
“The application process is very straightforward and will only take a few minutes to complete.
“Latest figures show that 89% of schools in Wolverhampton are rated as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, the highest ever, and competition for places is high. Parents should remember that applying after the deadline has passed could have a detrimental effect on their chance of securing a place at one of their preferred schools.”
Applications are made through a secure website and can be viewed and edited online up until Monday (15 January). People who apply online will be able to access their child’s school place allocation on 16 April 2018, rather than having to wait for notification in the post.
