While we cover LGBT+ events and issues we are not an exclusively ‘GAY’ radio station – we are attitude free and open to everyone! We broadcast on DAB Digital Radio and also via the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a full and diverse schedule.
We are proud to have live presenters at our Wolverhampton Studios and during the evening we turn up the pace and have more specialist music programmes. Live and local – that’s us! Our presentation team ranges from people we have trained ourselves to great radio professionals. So for anyone with the radio ‘bug’ then our doors are open and we’ll make training available to anyone who would like to learn about radio with The Gorgeous Radio Academy. This will not only train future on-air talent but also the people behind the scenes.
Gorgeous FM started life in early 2014 as The City, later renaming to Gorgeous Radio. It was originally an online community radio station covering Wolverhampton. After running for 2 years it was decided that rather than trying to be a station playing the same music and doing nothing different to lots of other stations, we wanted to be different and cater for listeners that we felt were often being neglected.
So, Gorgeous FM was born in August 2016 with a new management team, a talented bunch of new presenters, new imaging and a much improved music library. Instead of trying to be everything to everybody and risking being nothing to anybody, we became much more focused with our music policy and adopted the tagline of “Attitude-free radio for Birmingham and The Black Country”
Since then we have gone from strength to strength and are picking up new listeners all the time. From the feedback we receive, we know that people love our music policy and the mix of local news and information that is relevant to them.
Our next aim was to launch Gorgeous FM on DAB Digital Radio across Birmingham with a view to covering Wolverhampton, Telford and Shropshire also on DAB at a later stage.
Well, we achieved the first – we’re now live across the UK’s second City on DAB… who knows what’s next! Keep listening…
Out and About
Since the very beginning, Gorgeous FM has put on regular roadshows and we’ve been proud to broadcast live from the centre of Wolverhampton with roadshows in Queen’s Square and the annual City Show in West Park.
We have attended school fun days and also staged many outside broadcasts from City centre venues such as Beatties (House Of Fraser) in Wolverhampton.
Looking ahead to the future, we hope to be part of further Pride events including Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall where we intend to broadcast live.
We also want to stage as many roadshows at local fetes and events as we can. So if you have an event that would benefit from a fun roadshow, why not give us a shout!
In the interests of full disclosure, here’s how the radio station is funded.
Currently the entire station is funded by Gorgeous Nightclub in Wolverhampton who will continue to support the station in the future.
Our aim is to receive around 50% of our income from show and feature sponsorship and advertisements played on air and displayed on our website.
By offering training at The Gorgeous Radio Academy we will be applying for funding grants from sources including the national lottery and educational facilities.
There is a donate button linked to our PayPal account on the website and we collect donations and sell merchandise at the various events we attend.
