Beverley, who grew up in the Penn area and has performed with the likes of Prince and Andrea Bocelli, is keen for people to nominate a young citizen they think deserves to be recognised for their contributions to the city and those around them.

She said: “I think it’s vital that young people have a chance to be celebrated in our great city.

“All of us in Wolverhampton have a vested interest in nurturing and encouraging our young.

“Let’s celebrate Wolverhampton’s youth; we’ve got a lot to offer in this great city of ours and I couldn’t be more proud.”

Organised by the city’s five Rotary clubs, in partnership with the City of Wolverhampton Council, Express & Star, Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation, Waitrose and The Way Youth Zone, the awards seek to recognise young people who have made a significant contribution to Wolverhampton.

Any young person aged between 13-19 who live, work or go to school in the city can be nominated if they have gone the extra mile to help others or have made a significant contribution to their school, youth organisation or community.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 31 May. To make a nomination, please visit www.wolverhamptonyoungcitizen.org.uk.

Emma Bennett, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Director of Children’s Services, said: “Young people are an important part of our city and are integral in helping to shape its future. It is great that we have the chance to celebrate their achievements which help Wolverhampton to grow.”

Other famous faces who are supporting the 2019 awards include Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady and Black Country comedienne Doreen Tipton, who along with Beverley have been very keen for people to nominate.
