Tamworth Voices popular Christmas concert at St Editha’s Church will be made extra special this year, as winning Christmas poems will be featured as part of a festive Girlguiding Tamworth competition.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have entered a festive piece of writing, with winners Maddie Smith from Amington Rainbows, Tiana Richardson from Fazeley Brownies and Rose Baker-Wilkes from Glascote Guides, declared as the winners from each group.

The girls will read their winning poems during the Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 5, to add to the festive cheer.

The Tamworth Voices concert will also feature special guest appearances from Barberama, Maltida Pratt and Meg Benton, in aid of the Mayor’s charities.

Tamworth Voices will put a contemporary twist on the traditional choir; covering a wide range of musical styles and performing well known Christmas anthems. Tickets are priced at £10 adults and £8 concessions. The doors open at 7pm, for a 7.30pm show and people are welcome to bring their own refreshments.

Tickets are available via the box office: online at www.tamworthartsandevents.co.uk  or by calling 01827 709618. A transaction fee of £1 is payable on all online and telephone bookings.

The proceeds from the event will be split between the Mayor’s chosen charities, County Air Ambulance and Headway.

Jill Longhurst from Girlguiding Tamworth, said: “Our groups have really enjoyed taking part in something a little bit different, they never cease to amaze us with their creativity.

“The winners of each of our Rainbow, Brownie and Guide sections are practising and looking forward to representing Girlguiding Tamworth to read their creations at the Tamworth Voices Show.”

Cllr John Chesworth, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Culture and Operational Services, said: “This concert always guarantees to be a great performance and bring festive cheer to all that attend. This year is no exception and with the added special guest appearances, it is a Christmas show not to be missed!

“Supported by Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events Team, there is no better way to start your Christmas season than enjoying this great festive themed evening. It promises to be a heart-warming performance.”

The annual festive favourites are part of Tamworth Assembly Rooms on Tour, which is taking acts that would normally perform in the historic theatre out into the community while it undergoes refurbishment.
